The role of a 'doula'

Understanding everything about childbirth can be a daunting task. Emotional support is crucial for women during labor and birth. Research demonstrates that when a woman receives adequate support during labor and birth, the experience is significantly improved for both her and her partner. The role of birth support complements the overall support team and plays a pivotal role in ensuring a positive experience for the mother and partner.

What is a 'doula'?

Firstly, the Greek word for doula means ‘caregiver.’ A professional doula serves as the ultimate birth companion. Success is achieved by enhancing the birth process for the laboring woman and her partner through continuous emotional and physical support. Doulas also assist or guide the woman in obtaining information in an informative and unbiased manner. They do not provide clinical or medical advice; that is the role of the medical care providers.
